DESCRIPTION
In these one-hour conversations, people who hold a variety of roles in the mental and behavioral health field will share insights into their education and career path. This series will introduce different career options and help demystify the requirements involved. Speakers will describe their unique paths, including how they got where they are, challenges they overcame, and lessons learned along the way. The Academy seeks to show and encourage diversity in the field, including by sharing stories from professionals with diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural identities, lived experiences, and motivations for doing this work, as well as people with a variety of degrees, licenses, and roles. Learners will have an opportunity to ask questions of each speaker.
Speaker: Bryan Kutner, PhD, MPH
Bryan Kutner is a clinical psychologist who specializes in motivational interviewing and a behavioral health scientist with a focus on harm reduction. He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. His research includes understanding how to reduce HIV-related stigma in health care settings.
Bryan Kutner holds a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Washington and an MPH from Columbia University.
"My career has been always been in behavioral health, but my path from job to job didn’t always feel like a clear trajectory. In retrospect, it all makes sense because these different jobs and experiences, particularly meeting very inspiring colleagues and mentors, helped me to narrow my path, and eventually become a clinical psychologist. I’m excited to share what I’ve learned along the way, and hopefully pass the torch by inspiring other folks in behavioral health to follow their own career paths."
WHAT TO EXPECT
