Introduction to Indigenous Tools for Living (ITFL): Building a Relationship with the Inner Critic

DESCRIPTION

This workshop will explore the “inner critic” and offer tools to transform our relationship to it. We will practice using this critical voice as a helper in finding our authentic personal and collective voices. Participants will be guided through an embodied experience and art activity to explore the inner critic and connect with the collective inter-generational wisdom laying deep under the critic.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Participants will learn:

  • A decolonized understanding of the critic and how to connect with the collective inter-generational wisdom lying deep under the critic
  • Techniques to center yourself and work effectively in challenging situations
  • How to identify stress responses that others may be having, and ways to respond when someone is in a difficult emotional state

LEARNING PATH

This course is part of a Series: Introduction to Indigenous Tools for Living (ITFL)

  • Tools for Complex and Vicarious Trauma
  • Building a Relationship with the Inner Critic
  • Land-Based Healing Practices for Working with Grief

WHAT TO EXPECT

This is a highly interactive course. We ask all participants to join on-camera, where possible, and participate fully in course activities. Instructors will guide participants through a range of exercises, including how to talk about your own experiences from an embodied place. This course will include time for questions, discussion, and break-out rooms. Participants will need to bring paper and something to draw with (markers, crayons, pens).

ELIGIBILITY

This course is open to staff of any non-profit community organization or government agency that delivers social services in NYC.

This course is part of a series, Introduction to Indigenous Tools for Living (ITFL). ITFL explores Indigenous perspectives and practices for learning about complex trauma and grounding ourselves in difficult situations. Learners are invited to register for one or more courses in the series.
