Practicing Mindfulness in Difficult Times

DESCRIPTION

This is an in-person workshop located at CUNY School of Professional Studies, 119 W. 31st Street, New York, NY 10001.

This experiential in-person workshop will introduce meditation as a secular and supportive practice to reduce stress and anxiety and improve interpersonal relationships and overall wellness. We will especially explore how to access meditation, and ways it can benefit us, in the context of social stress and challenges.

This workshop will incorporate teachings from Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), a scientifically researched program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 for the University of Massachusetts Medical School. We will explore the root causes of stress and its physiological and psychological impacts. We will also try meditation practices together to calm stress responses and increase qualities of mindfulness and care.

The meditation practices in this workshop are suited for those coming to meditation for the first time and for experienced meditators. Join us to practice in a supportive environment, and consider which practices you may want to integrate into your routines.
